Al-Mafer - Yemen | Monday, December 23
SAM Organization, a member of the Justice4Yemen Pact Coalition, organized a focused discussion session on transitional justice within the framework of the "Supporting Peace in Yemen through Accountability, Reconciliation, and Knowledge Exchange (Spark)" project. The session took place in the Al-Safaa Hall in Al-Mafer District, with participation from political party leaders, victims of violations, representatives from marginalized communities, civil society organizations, and women's groups.
The aim of the session was to enhance community dialogue regarding the principles and mechanisms of transitional justice as a fundamental tool for achieving national reconciliation and establishing values of justice and accountability. This initiative is part of the project's implementation phase, which began on September 1, with field surveys targeting various community groups to identify their needs and perceptions regarding transitional justice.
During the session, attendees presented suggestions and ideas for developing mechanisms related to transitional justice and engaged positively with the posed questions, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the most affected groups, particularly victims and marginalized communities, to ensure an inclusive reconciliation process that does not exclude any segment of society.
Participants expressed their appreciation for organizing such sessions as a crucial step towards achieving national reconciliation and addressing the impacts of war. They stressed the importance of continuing initiatives that raise awareness and build community consensus around transitional justice mechanisms.
Since its launch last September, the "Spark" project has focused on involving local communities in the peacebuilding process through various activities, including field studies, dialogue sessions, and training workshops aimed at enhancing awareness of transitional justice concepts and encouraging community engagement in building a future based on justice and reconciliation.
This initiative is part of SAM's ongoing efforts to promote awareness of transitional justice concepts and increase community acceptance as a necessary step towards achieving lasting peace in Yemen. Through these sessions, SAM aims to foster national consensus that ensures victims' rights and strengthens the foundations of justice and accountability for sustainable stability.
