Marib – Al-Maneen | Saturday, May 2, 2026
The Community Reconciliation and Consensus Committee in Marib Governorate has achieved a new milestone as part of its ongoing efforts in local mediation and the promotion of community reconciliation. On Saturday, May 2, 2026, the committee successfully reached an agreement with residents of the “Women’s Development Building” in the Al-Maneen area, stipulating the evacuation of the building, which had been housing a number of displaced families.
This agreement comes as part of the activities of the initiative “Reconciliation and Shared Spaces for Public Building Evacuation Issues – Marib,” which aims to strengthen reconciliation and restorative justice, and to build trust between displaced populations, local authorities, and the community. The initiative seeks to achieve this by identifying peaceful and fair solutions for vacating government buildings, alongside providing suitable alternatives for displaced persons.
The initiative is part of the project “Supporting Peace in Yemen through Accountability, Reconciliation, and Knowledge Sharing (SPARK),” implemented by SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties in partnership with the Association of Mothers of Abductees, with funding from the DT Institute.
As part of translating these understandings into action, the Community Reconciliation and Consensus Committee and its working team conducted a field visit during which an evacuation agreement document was signed with the residents. May 25, 2026, was set as the final deadline for vacating and handing over the building. Implementation steps also included initiating a survey of the land designated for relocating the displaced families and identifying locations for the residential containers that will be provided for them.
The field visit was attended by Ms. Amal Dahwan, Chair of the Committee; Mr. Essam Al-Sabri, Project Coordinator representing the Association of Mothers of Abductees; Mr. Mohammed Madash, Legal Specialist; and Mr. Tamim Al-Ma‘afa, Sector Officer, along with several community figures, including Sheikh Mohammed Al-Qardi, and with the participation of the Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons Camps. The team also met with representatives of the displaced families to discuss evacuation mechanisms and ensure the provision of dignified living conditions for those relocating.
The committee affirmed that this achievement was made possible through the active participation of the Executive Unit for Displaced Persons, which played a significant role, in addition to the local authorities and in cooperation with several organizations, foremost among them ACTED and the Norwegian Refugee Council, which contributed to supporting efforts to provide housing alternatives and strengthen humanitarian solutions for displaced populations.
