A recent report by Justice4Yemen has revealed a troubling reality in Yemen: between April 2022 and December 2023, 13 documented cases of sexual violence against 18 child victims were reported by members of the Watch4HR coalition within the Justice4Yemen pact. This report highlights significant underreporting exacerbated by social stigma and fear of retribution, forcing many victims into silence. Shockingly, eight of the 18 child victims faced detention under criminal charges related to their assaults, demonstrating a failure to protect their rights. Perpetrators, often connected to conflict parties including military commanders and government officials, enjoy impunity due to collusion with local authorities, hindering justice and perpetuating a culture of impunity amidst conflict.

The report urges comprehensive actions: investigation and documentation of sexual violence cases, enhanced police training and reporting mechanisms, publication of statistics on sexual violence, accountability for collusive authorities, and improved conditions in detention sites. It calls for increased funding for programs supporting child survivors and awareness campaigns to reduce stigma and encourage reporting, aiming to promote justice and support or victims in Yemen.
