The Reconciliation Committee continues its work under SPARK program, implemented by DT Institute in partnership with SAM for Rights and Liberties and Abductees' Mothers Association. The committee aims to strengthen social harmony and assist in the reconciliation of social tensions. Its members have been active for three months, monitoring over 25 documented cases of social tension in both urban and rural areas of Taiz.
The committee addresses serious issues rooted in the decade-long conflict in Taiz — a city heavily affected by clashes between opposing parties. Many tensions have emerged around limited resources such as water, as well as broader issues caused by the weakened security situation.
As part of its role in promoting victims’ rights to reparation and remembrance, the Reconciliation Committee participated alongside the Victims’ Committee in commemorating the tenth anniversary of the oil tank explosion in Taiz—one of the most tragic incidents caused by the prolonged siege on the city.

So far, the committee has successfully resolved three cases through dialogue and wise guidance, helping to reduce disputes. Over six additional cases are currently in progress. Furthermore, the committee plans to assist SPARK partners in the implementation of five restorative justice initiatives in the coming months. These initiatives aim to strengthen social cohesion and reinforce transitional justice principles in Taiz.
