SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties, in partnership with the Abductees' Mothers Association, organized a workshop in Taiz as part of the project “Supporting Peace through Accountability, Reconciliation, and Knowledge Exchange – SPARK”, funded by the DT Institute, to discuss joint efforts, challenges, and opportunities related to the evacuation of public and private buildings in coordination with the relevant authorities.

The workshop included the presentation of a comprehensive report on housing issues and the impacts of war and displacement, as well as testimonies from several affected homeowners who called for urgent solutions to recover their properties and sought information on the measures taken by the responsible authorities. Discussions also addressed the social and economic damages caused by the ongoing problem and the obstacles hindering its resolution.

Abdullah Ali Jassar, Chair of the Community Reconciliation and Consensus Committee, affirmed that the committee continues its work to address housing issues and return properties to their owners, noting that around 29 houses and apartments have been handed over since the start of the project. The Reconciliation Committee is a newly established body within the SPARK project and operates under the supervision of SAM.

The workshop was attended by representatives from relevant authorities and local government, civil society organizations, human rights advocates, judges, and affected homeowners.
