Taiz – SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties, in partnership with the Abductees’ Mothers Association, organized a high-level dialogue session today in the city of Taiz. The session brought together leaders and prominent figures from various political parties and forces to discuss and explore their perspectives and visions regarding transitional justice and its mechanisms within a comprehensive national framework, amid discussions described as transparent and in-depth.
This dialogue session, organized by SAM as part of the “SPARK” project funded by the DT Institute, was attended by specialized experts who facilitated the discussions. The session focused on shaping a national vision that balances justice for victims with the requirements of political and social stability.
Participants’ interventions reflected a growing political awareness of the importance of transitional justice as a genuine guarantee for preventing the recurrence of conflict and for building sustainable peace. Attendees called for the development of an inclusive national approach that avoids provocative terminology and addresses legitimate concerns through clear safeguards, emphasizing that the objective is institutional and societal reform—not revenge or score-settling.
Representatives of political parties and forces unanimously affirmed that victims’ rights constitute a national and moral constant that is non-negotiable. They stressed that reparations must go beyond financial compensation to include explicit acknowledgment of violations, formal apologies, and truth-telling as integral components of moral redress, underscoring the responsibility of both the state and political parties in supporting national accountability mechanisms.
Participants also examined the complex balance between the imperatives of accountability and truth-seeking on the one hand, and the demands of stability on the other.
The session concluded with a set of practical recommendations and identified areas of consensus, paving the way toward a national roadmap to activate comprehensive reconciliation pathways in line with the complexities of the current context.
