Geneva - As part of the "Supporting Peace in Yemen through Accountability, Reconciliation, and Knowledge Exchange (Spark)" project, SAM Organization has launched a series of focus group discussions in Marib City, involving leaders from political parties, victims, marginalized communities, and civil society organizations. These sessions aim to exchange ideas and perspectives on the principles and mechanisms of transitional justice as a means to achieve community reconciliation and establish values of justice and accountability.
Prior to these discussions, SAM conducted a field survey to gather opinions from various stakeholders, including victims, experts, human rights defenders, journalists, and representatives of minorities and marginalized communities. This ensures comprehensive and fair representation of all societal groups, with a focus on enhancing gender inclusivity and amplifying the voices of survivors of violations.
This initiative aims to raise awareness about the concepts of transitional justice and increase community acceptance of it as a necessary step toward achieving national reconciliation. The sessions also seek to build broad consensus around transitional justice mechanisms that ensure victims' rights and support the foundations for lasting and sustainable peace in Yemen.
The organizers of the initiative emphasized that enhancing community dialogue is a cornerstone for achieving the goals of transitional justice and accountability, contributing to a comprehensive vision that meets the aspirations of all Yemenis for a more just and equitable future.
