Geneva – SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties has released its monthly report documenting the escalation of human rights violations in Yemen during February 2025. The report highlights the continued arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, restrictions on public freedoms, and targeting of journalists and humanitarian workers. It asserts that these violations are part of a systematic approach by parties to the conflict to intimidate civilians and silence dissenting voices.
The report also sheds light on the increasing campaigns of arrests targeting humanitarian workers and United Nations employees. These arrests are being used as a political pressure tool, posing a serious threat to humanitarian efforts in Yemen. The organization stressed that such practices hinder relief efforts and exacerbate the suffering of civilians who rely on humanitarian aid.
As part of its human rights efforts, SAM confirmed its participation in a seminar held on the sidelines of the 58th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. The seminar discussed the importance of establishing an international investigative mechanism to hold perpetrators of violations in Yemen accountable. The organization emphasized that the absence of justice has worsened the crisis and encouraged impunity.
In its report, SAM condemned the ongoing restrictions on media freedoms and the increasing repression of journalists and human rights activists. It also highlighted violations against detainees in prisons, including torture and deliberate medical neglect. Additionally, the organization warned against the continued crackdown on civil society organizations, considering these policies an attempt to suffocate any space for rights and freedoms in the country.
SAM called on the international community to take urgent action to pressure the parties involved in these violations, ensure the release of detainees, and protect humanitarian and media workers. The organization stressed that international accountability is a crucial step toward ending impunity and halting the ongoing deterioration of human rights in Yemen.
