SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties denounced in a press release today, refusal of Houthis-run Political Security prison administration, to allow inmate Ali Ghaleb Al-Anesi bidding a final tribute to his deceased mother, who died following a heart stroke that she sustained on Thursday 5 July 2018. SAM called for an immediate stop of Houthis militia violations against detainees and abductees and shall pay attention to humanitarian consideration.

SAM Organized, based in Geneva said in a statement that the HRD and lawyer Ali Al-Anesi, has requested the prison administration to allow him to bid farewell and bury his dead mother, but they refused, despite the intervention of social dignitaries.

SAM indicated that Al-Anesi, saw his mother, a few instances, since his detention in July last year, at the Houthis-controlled prison in Dhamar governorate, because of his human rights activities.

In a statement documented by SAM of one of Al-Anesi relatives, he stated that Houthis militia denied visits of communication with Al-Anesi since last May, i.e., Ramadhan month. Consequently, his mother’s health deteriorated and ultimately, she died two months later.

Tawfeq Al-Humeidi, Monitor and Documentation Officer at SAM said, “villagers at Al-Anesi village brought mother’s dead body in an ambulance to the prison’s gate to allow Al-Anesi to bid farewell to his mother, but Houthis militia has vowed to burn the vehicle along with its passengers”, “this is unethical and inhuman act, it is disgraceful” he added.

SAM Organization also condemned the detention of Ali Al-Anesi for more than one year due to his human rights and legal activities, also condemned denial of family visits to Al-Anesi and refusal to bid farewell to his late mother, in flagrant violation to the international humanitarian standards and international rules related to inmates and detainees.

SAM called the international community to interfere immediately and take all necessary measures to protect the HRDs in Yemen, and pressure Houthis group to immediately release all detained and abducted HRDs, including Ali Al-Anesi.
