SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties, together with the Abductees’ Mothers Association and DT Institute, and in cooperation with the Office of Siege Affairs, the Office of Culture, and the General Authority for Museums and Antiquities, concluded today (Saturday) the “Memory Museum” activities in the city of Taiz. The event lasted for five days, with the participation of a number of cultural, political, media, and academic figures, as well as representatives of civil society organizations, in commemoration of the oppressive siege the city has endured over the past ten years.

During the closing ceremony, students and schools participating in the event were honored. The artistic works and cultural activities showcased the profound impact of the events the city has experienced.

Muath Al-Faqih, Coordination Officer at SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties, stated that this event represents a new gateway to awareness and memory, and embodies the moral commitment to the cause of Taiz.

He added, “The Memory Museum, despite the wounds and pain caused by repeated crimes, stands as a living force of resistance and a bridge toward a more just future, despite the ordeals the city continues to face.”

Al-Faqih extended his gratitude to the Office of Siege Affairs, the Office of Culture, Antiquities, and Museums in Taiz for their support and cooperation, and to the artists who presented remarkable artworks that transformed pain into expressive paintings, turning memory into a mirror of reality through colors. He also thanked both local and international partners, while commending the role of students, schools, and universities—particularly fine arts students—for their creativity in conveying the message carried by the event.

He further noted that the “Memory Museum” is part of a broader project being implemented under the framework of the “SPARK” initiative, in cooperation with the Abductees’ Mothers Association and funded by DT Institute, pointing out that the event represents an important step toward preserving national memory, which is an integral part of the struggle for transitional justice.
