Taiz – The Community Reconciliation and Consensus Committee conducted a field visit to several water storage reservoirs in Taiz to review progress and ongoing rehabilitation works, as part of efforts to improve water services and strengthen community cohesion.

The committee noted that, during October, it held a series of consultative meetings with relevant stakeholders to identify priority projects where civil society organizations could provide support. The rehabilitation of water reservoirs emerged as a key outcome due to its direct impact on improving water services and reducing conflicts related to water access.

During the visit, the committee reviewed the progress of a project rehabilitating three storage reservoirs, implemented by YCO – Youth Creativity for Development and Peace, in partnership with the Local Water and Sanitation Authority – Taiz and supported by Mercy Corps. The restoration work is scheduled for completion by 12 February 2026.

The project aims to increase the reservoirs’ storage capacity from 300 cubic meters to 4,500 cubic meters, contributing to improved water security and reducing hardships for residents.

The committee emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts between official authorities and civil society organizations and commended the implementing and supporting partners for advancing water projects that promote stability and community peace in Taiz.
