Geneva – SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties stated that the International Criminal Court's decision to issue arrest warrants against Netanyahu and his former defense minister on charges of potential war crimes in Gaza represents an important step toward achieving justice and redress for the victims who have suffered severe human rights violations. The organization called on the international community to comply with the decision and ensure the necessary measures are taken to achieve justice and hold those responsible for crimes committed against civilians in Gaza and the West Bank accountable.
Sam pointed out that the horrific crimes committed by Israel in Gaza, witnessed by the world, raised real concerns about the possibility of those responsible escaping punishment due to political interests, international considerations, and agendas that collude with the occupying Israeli state. However, the International Criminal Court's decision has restored hope for the possibility of redress and justice.
SAM reported that international and local reports have documented a series of horrific crimes committed in Gaza, including: the deliberate and repeated use of force against civilians, resulting in thousands of victims, including children and women; the use of starvation as a weapon of war, with the blocking of essential humanitarian aid, exacerbating the humanitarian situation in the region; as well as indiscriminate attacks on residential areas, leading to widespread destruction and loss of life.
The organization affirmed that the issuance of arrest warrants represents a victory for the victims and a testament that justice can prevail even in the face of tyranny and complicity. It added that the International Criminal Court has once again proven to be the last refuge for achieving fairness and that justice is not just an idea but a right for every oppressed individual.
SAM Organization for Rights and Freedoms expressed its deep gratitude to human rights activists, lawyers, and countries that supported this path and confronted the remnants of colonial behavior that some believed had been left behind in the pages of the past. It pointed out that the efforts of these individuals and countries, who worked tirelessly to document the violations and call for accountability, were crucial in supporting this historic decision.
The organization also added that non-governmental organizations, local activists, and countries supporting this cause played an essential role in raising international awareness about the crimes committed in Gaza, contributing to pressure on the international community to take concrete steps in this regard. It affirmed its full support for this decision.
The organization called on the international community to comply with this historic decision, ensure the necessary steps are taken to achieve justice and hold those responsible accountable, and to consider that impunity encourages continued violations. It emphasized that fairness is the path to a safer and more just world, stressing the importance of following through with this case to the end to ensure justice for the victims and restore trust in the international judicial system.
